ANALYSING A THRILLER - TRAINING DAY

Now when watching the clip think about how you the clip let you know these characteristics.

Pay attention to:

Use of camera - what do we see and how do we see it
  1. It starts by showing the whole restaurant then slowly follows Jake until he’s alonzo then after it uses shoulder level angle to see both of them but still can see Jake’s emotion
Use of editing - who is on screen longest, what shot follows which shot
  1. Alonzo appears in the screen this shows the importance of alonzo
Sound - what they say, how they say it, what music do you have.
  1. Music starts with the radio in restaurant to give the audience the atmosphere of the restaurant.
Mise-en-scene - what does the way they are dressed or what props they have - have to do with their character.

  1. The way Alonzo dresses shows that he is a higher class people than Jake because alonzo shirt,pants and jacket they all match but for Jake it seems like he just wear anything he can find
  2. The colour of Alonzo’s clothes are all black this could mean that he is a bit cold in the inside.

Convention Spy-Thriller Movie

Spy thriller plot:

 Usually the hero faces challenges, has to complete a mission in which he uses his specialist spy skills, normally he is up against a large organisation who has evil intentions.The hero has to face the henchman at the beginning and the middle, and the boss at the end which is his hardest challenge where he must use all the skills he has learnt along the way. At the end of the film he saves the day and a new mission begins. Typical iconography, costume, hero may sometimes have a companion to help save someone or to help save the world.


Characters:


Hero
is usually male which is a centre of attention. He has the appearance, which attracts all the ladies because he is usually tall, good looking and well dressed. Moreover, hero is often clever and specialise in killing.

Villan:
Villan has superior forces and resources to try and defeat the hero, the villan is normally a male who is sometimes well bulit and could also have a sexual appearance, or sometimes a disturbing appearance for example one side of his face that is burnt, this denotating to the audienece that the villan is a rebellious character who has been through alot of battles and fights over the years and like to be a challenge, also to defeat destroy and kill.

Love : 
Love interest always a female character who has sexual appearance about herself who attracts the Hero.Usually the hero has to save his love from danger.

Locations:

The location for the spy thriller often is used to show the audience the lifestyle of the characters whether they are seen as higher class or lower class.

  2. By experiencing negative and scary imagery we intensity the positive feelings when the negative is removed.

1) Tension and suspense  - Narrative, use of micro-elements - manipulation of information.
2) Release  - The fears explored by the audience have to be relevant to the audience - they have to believe.
3) Unrealism  - We have to know it is not real.
