4 - Use of technology
Use of technology
I started my course using my phone to take most of my videos and photos but as I continue the course I started to use more technology in my film opening
Research
Movie2free.com - I use this movie website to watch movie to allow me to analyze similar movie to my film opening. In order for me to understand the convention of the thriller.
Youtube - I use youtube to watch tutorials videos on how to use adobe premiere and aftereffect. This really has helped me to improve my editing skills because there are so many youtuber who gives free tutorials and different youtuber give different technique

Font website- I use Font website to find the Font that would give my audience the feelings I want them to feel even though it is the same word.
PLANNING
Blogger
I use blogger for many things, such as outlining my risk of production in order to avoid them as much as possible
I also use it to plan my schedule. For example, what am i going to do each day, deadline and to keep track of working speed.
I created my storyboard in the blogger as well. Therefore I have a rough idea of what will happen in each scene.
Skype Facebook Line- We use these social media as a way to communicate, plan and share videos and photos
FILMING
Equipment-
- Camera Stabiliser - We used the stabiliser but it did not turn out as we thought because we could not get the weigh equal.
2. Camera - I used Canon 600d to film which has auto focus and auto stabiliser. This allows me to move more freely and it shoots HD footage which makes the quality of my film higher. All the data is stored in sd card which can then download to my laptop
Laptop - I used Macbook pro which allows me to use softwares to edit my film opening
Post PRODUCTION
Adobe premiere - Most of my effects were done in Adobe Premiere such as sound effect and putting videos into a film opening.
After effects - I used After effects mainly to add text such as credits.
3 - How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
Code and Conventions
At the start of the course, I barely know anything about code and conventions but as I have watched many thriller movies and simultaneously have my teacher beside me to outline me the conventions of thriller. Therefore I am now able to use the knowledge to adapt it in my film opening.
For instance when deciding to make a Gangster/Crime Thriller we look at such texts as Goodfellas, Casino and Tom Hardy's 2016 film Legend - a biopic about the Kray Twin. From this we saw the conventional mise-en-scene particularly costume and also the way the camera treating the criminals. The suits were sharp and often they were shots from a low angle to create the sense of power.
Planning & Organisation
When we filming we did not plan much but we were more excited to film our first scene, no doubt nothing went as we wanted it to be. However, after that scene we became more organized and have started to plan every aspect of our filming. For example, equipment, location, date and time e.g.
Camera Work
At the beginning I had very few knowledge on camera but as I started to learn the functions of camera and different ways to film to give the audience different emotions I am now more confident with camera
Visual effects
I always have an interest on visual effect but hardly know anything about it. Until I started this course I put in more time in researching on visual effects by asking for help from the older year group or watching tutorial video on youtube.
Editing
I found editing very hard at first but I guess I was lucky because my best friend spends most of his time editing videos. Therefore, when I was stuck he would help me and show me how to do it and moreover watching him edit really helps me gain more knowledge.
Creative Confidence
I have researched the codes and conventions found in a thriller and found that thrillers like Inception uses red saturated lighting. This is because red connotes an idea of destruction and is used to represent evil and death. In addition, red can also symbolise blood, death and anger.
2 - How does your product engage audiences and how would it be distributed
Plot of Inception: Dom Cobb is a thief who has ability to go through people’s dream and steal their thoughts
I use “YouGovProfile” to target down people who would like to watch my movie by using similar movie plot to analyze
It is shown that my biggest audience would come from urban area and is around 19-29 years old
Moreover, my main audience would be interested in science, wrestling and swimming.
From the data I can conclude that I should advertise my movie near sport centre in urban area, which is full of male age around 19-29 years old. By doing so would reduce cost of advertisement and make it more efficient.
The Prestige
I analyse on other similar film and the results happened to be very close.
It shows that most of people who like to watch similar movie to my film usually visit these media sites such as Netflix, Tv Land e.g. In conclusion, I should narrow down my audience to male who is around middle age and ike to play sport and often likes to visit media sites.
1 - How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues
In our credits, we used zoom out to let the audience see the whole footage of the scene but at the same time we covered the actor’s face with curtain. This creates mysterious to the audience.
The following scene is when the killer walks into the room but showing his back to the audience which then continues to leave audience with confusion.
In this scene, we filmed the scene with a close up shot to show the audience that the killer’s emotion which he has no doubt in killing the victim
My research shows that red is the symbolic for death and sadness therefore I coulour graded this scene to red. This allows me to show the unfortunate death of the victim.
The font of my title is similar to blood spill I then used red again to represent death and blood. For example, the movie “Taken” which is the similar genre as my film opening also uses red for title colour font
